Harrington’s casino is a highly successful gambling enterprise in Quine run by the wealthy Harrington Family. Harrington’s runs two casino branches, both in the Commercial District – one bordering on the Raykh section and one bordering on the Shvakh section. Although both locations include a similar selection of games of chance and skill, they differ significantly in terms of decor and commodities. The Raykh branch caters to a higher class of clientele and is decorated accordingly, with elaborate carvings and tapestries, and expensive and rich food and drink. The Shvakh branch is also well decorated, but obviously cheaper. Food and alcohol are cheaper and of lower quality. Harrington’s makes a profit off of both locations, however it is rumored that a patron of the Raykh branch loses less on average than a patron of the Shvakh branch. These rumors are persistent but unsubstantiated. While almost anybody will be allowed to patronize the Shvakh branch, the Raykh branch has very discriminating bouncers who turn away anyone who might “ruin the ambiance”.
In addition to games of chance played against the house, both Harrington’s branches semi-regularly host tournaments for games of skill. In addition to charging an entry fee, Harrington also charges admission for spectators. Popular events include prize fighting, fencing and Khitre. These events tend to be well attended both by competitors and spectators. A winner can expect to make a modest sum from winning one of these events, although Harrington’s seems to keep the majority of the entry fees and ticket/concession sales. A winner at the Raykh branch can expect to earn significantly more than a winner at the Shvakh branch in a tournament of similar turnout.
